Police Impound Toyota Corolla After Discovering Three Cattle Stuffed Inside

Police in Katete District of Eastern Province have impounded a grey Toyota Corolla taxi, registration ARD 321, after officers discovered three cattle crammed inside the vehicle during a pre-dawn operation in Kavulamungu Village.

The unusual livestock transport incident occurred between 01:00 hours and 06:00 hours on Friday, April 10, 2026.

Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba confirmed that officers acted on a tip-off from a concerned citizen who reported suspected stolen cattle in the area.

Police quickly moved to Kavulamungu Village, laid an ambush, and intercepted the saloon car carrying:
🐄 One brown cow
🐄 One brown calf
🐄 One black-and-white ox

Three suspects were found in possession of the animals:
Saiti Mudimba (51) of Ibex Compound — driver of the vehicle,
Jonathan Banda (54) of Kawaza Compound,
Fackson Banda (34) of Goliath Village.

The suspects allegedly told police that a man identified only as Aswell from Mbwindi area near Chikalaba turn-off had given them the cattle.

All three men are currently in police custody. The vehicle remains impounded while the cattle are being kept safely pending identification by their rightful owners.
