Lusaka TikToker “Why Me” Seeks Medical Attention as Trial Continues

Zambian Current Affairs & Politics | Court News

Famous Lusaka TikToker Francis Kapwepwe, popularly known as “Why Me” or “Muli Above the Law”, has informed the Lusaka Magistrate’s Court that his health condition has deteriorated and he requires medical attention.

When the matter came up for continuation of trial, Mr. Kapwepwe requested Principal Resident Magistrate Idah Phiri to allow him to seek medical treatment, adding that the case has taken too long to conclude.

The 29-year-old accused is facing three counts of hate speech and expressing tribal contempt.

Earlier, the ex-convict applied for bail pending trial, but the prosecution opposed the application, arguing that he was previously elusive before his arrest.

In her ruling, Magistrate Phiri denied the bail application, stating that the plea lacked merit and that the accused posed a flight risk.

The court heard that law enforcement officers had to seek assistance from Interpol to apprehend Mr. Kapwepwe while he was abroad during a manhunt, demonstrating a likelihood of absconding.

Particulars of the offence allege that on March 31, 2025, Mr. Kapwepwe used his TikTok account, “Why Me the Lion of the World”, to publish hate speech targeting specific ethnic groups without lawful excuse, contrary to provisions of Zambia’s Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act.
