Kabushi Mob Burns Elderly Woman’s House Over Alleged Witchcraft
๐ Kabushi, Ndola, Zambia
A 65-year-old woman, Jacqueline Mwila, has been left homeless after her house was set ablaze by an angry Kabushi mob following suspicions that she was practicing witchcraft. The incident occurred after the death of 34-year-old Esnart Kaunda, who passed away after a short illness.
During a traditional funeral ritual known as the “Kikondo” ceremony, mourners carry a coffin to supposedly expose witches believed to have caused a death. In this case, Kaunda’s coffin allegedly “pointed” to Mwila’s house, prompting the mob to burn down her home and belongings.
Fortunately, Mwila was away from home at the time, spending time with friends at a funeral house. She was later advised not to return home due to high tensions in the area and was taken safely to Masala Police Station to report the matter.
Police, led by Copperbelt Province Commanding Officer Mwala Yuyi, confirmed the report and stated that investigations have been launched to identify and bring those responsible to justice. No arrests have been made so far.
