A 14-year-old boy of Luano District in Central Province has died after being attacked by a crocodile while fetching water from the Lusemfwa River.
The incident happened on March 1, 2026, and the deceased has been identified as Brian Sekeleti.
According to Chimika Ward Councilor Benford Katiti, Brian’s death is the second crocodile-related incident recorded in Luano District this year.
Mr. Katiti expressed concern over the continued loss of lives due to crocodile attacks in the area, noting that many residents are forced to fetch water from the river due to the lack of alternative water sources such as boreholes.
Community leaders have since called for urgent intervention from authorities to provide safe and reliable water sources to prevent further tragedies.
