Unknown People Exhume Grave, Steal Body of Drowned Man in Gwembe
Police in Southern Province have launched investigations after unknown individuals exhumed and stole the body of a 26-year-old man buried in Namakanka area of Gwembe District.
Police in Gwembe District are investigating a shocking incident in which unknown people allegedly exhumed a grave and stole the body of a 26-year-old man who had previously died after drowning in Lake Kariba.
Southern Province Police Commissioner Moono Namalongo confirmed that the incident is believed to have occurred between April 17 and April 18, 2026, in Namakanka area, Sichinondo Village under Munyubwe Chiefdom.
According to police, members of the public who had gone to collect baobab fruits discovered that the grave had been disturbed and left open, with fresh moist soil piled beside it.
The concerned residents immediately informed the Senior Headman, who later reported the matter to police authorities.
Commissioner Namalongo stated that the body of the deceased has not yet been recovered, and no suspects have been arrested so far.
Police have since launched investigations to establish the motive behind the grave exhumation and to identify those responsible for the disturbing act.
