Lusaka Woman Narrates Escape After Witnessing Uncle Allegedly Strangle Nephew
A Lusaka woman says she narrowly escaped after allegedly witnessing a man attacking his five-year-old nephew in George Compound before he reportedly turned on her.
A woman from George Compound in Lusaka has narrated how she escaped after allegedly witnessing the fatal attack of a five-year-old boy by his uncle.
Eunice Milanzi told Prime TV that she was alerted by a disturbance and decided to check what was happening behind a house, where she allegedly saw Clayton Phiri strangling his nephew, Samuel Phiri.
Milanzi said the suspect noticed her presence and allegedly accused her of being responsible for his problems before pursuing her.
"When I peeped on him as he strangled his nephew, he saw me and started shouting at me, accusing me of bewitching him and taking his destiny," she said.
She explained that she attempted to run to her house to report the matter to police, but the suspect allegedly followed her.
Milanzi said the suspect caught up with her at her door and grabbed her by the neck before she managed to escape and raise an alarm.
Other residents later intervened and restrained the suspect, who was subsequently detained by police.
The five-year-old boy was rushed to George Clinic after sustaining injuries, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Police have detained Clayton Phiri, 30, in connection with the alleged murder, while investigations into the incident continue.
Family members have expressed shock over the tragedy, saying they believed the uncle had a good relationship with the child. They have called on authorities to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the University Teaching Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
