Police in Choma are investigating two separate alleged rape incidents involving the same 35-year-old woman, which reportedly occurred within hours of each other.

Police in Southern Province have launched investigations into two separate alleged rape incidents involving a 35-year-old woman in Choma District.

Southern Province Police Commanding Officer Moono Namalongo confirmed the matter, stating that the incidents allegedly occurred on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, between 03:30 hours and 05:00 hours in Chandamali Township.

According to police, the woman was participating in a drinking spree when she reportedly requested a male colleague to escort her to a nearby toilet facility.

It is alleged that the colleague instead sexually assaulted her before fleeing the scene after a member of a neighbourhood watch group intervened.

Police say the woman was later offered assistance by another man who volunteered to escort her home following the first incident.

However, investigations indicate that the second suspect allegedly took the woman to his residence within Chandamali Compound, where a second sexual assault reportedly occurred.

Mr. Namalongo stated that the victim sustained a swollen forehead and bruises on her neck during the reported struggles.

No arrests have been made so far, and police say investigations are continuing as efforts are being made to identify and apprehend the suspects.

Authorities have urged members of the public with information that may assist investigations to report to the nearest police station.
