Judgement Expected Today In Why Me Hate Speech Case
TikToker Francis Kapwepwe, popularly known as Why Me, is today expected to know his fate as the Lusaka Magistrate’s Court prepares to deliver judgement in his hate speech case.
TikToker Francis Kapwepwe, commonly known as “Why Me,” is today expected to learn his fate when the Lusaka Magistrate’s Court delivers judgement in a hate speech and expressing hatred case.
Kapwepwe recently changed his plea and admitted guilt to two counts of hate speech before Principal Resident Magistrate Idah Phiri. He was subsequently convicted on his own admission after confirming the facts presented by the prosecution.
The charges stem from videos allegedly posted on his TikTok account, “Why Me the Lion of the World,” in which he was accused of directing hate speech against Tonga-speaking people and residents of Southern Province in March and April 2025.
During trial proceedings, forensic evidence reportedly linked the content to Kapwepwe’s social media accounts, while digital experts informed the court that the videos were authentic and not generated using artificial intelligence.
The prosecution has also informed the court that Kapwepwe is a second offender, citing a previous 2025 conviction in Livingstone involving a separate hate speech matter.
The court’s decision is expected to conclude a case that has sparked renewed public debate over online conduct, accountability and hate speech on social media platforms.
