MOTOR VEHICLE CATCHES FIRE ALONG LYAMBAI ROAD IN MONG
The Zambia Police Service in Western Province has confirmed a motor vehicle fire incident that occurred on Saturday, 22nd August 2026, at around 10:40 hours along Lyambai Road in the Lyambai area of Mongu District.
The incident involved a Toyota Voxy wagon/Rosa bus, registration number AUB 4106, driven by 36-year-old Siyambango Mabote of Naliyonwa Village in Kalabo District.
The vehicle was travelling from Kalabo to Mongu carrying 34 passengers who were members of the Apostolic Church.
According to preliminary information, the driver heard a loud bang from the engine compartment while the vehicle was in motion. Shortly afterwards, the vehicle caught fire.
All 34 passengers and the driver managed to safely evacuate the vehicle and no injuries were reported.
However, the vehicle was extensively damaged by the fire.
Police have since launched investigations to establish the exact cause of the engine explosion and subsequent fire.
