Chipata Man Caught Undressing Non-Verbal, Epileptic Teen
Quick action by members of the public in Madzimoyo, Chipata District, has led to the arrest of a 28-year-old man after he was allegedly found undressing and caressing a 13-year-old girl with epilepsy in a nearby bush.
According to Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba, residents Sanford Banda and Amake Mulilo raised an alarm after spotting the suspect with the minor around 12:35 hours today.
Mweemba said alert members of the public responded quickly, apprehended the suspect and handed him over to police.
The suspect, identified as Robert Daka alias Jahman, was subsequently taken into police custody.
Mweemba said the matter was formally reported by the child's 40-year-old grandmother from Mpezeni Village in the Chief Mpezeni area.
In her report, the grandmother stated that her granddaughter has a medical condition affecting her speech and had been left at home alone when the incident occurred.
The child was issued with a police medical report form and referred to Chipata Central Hospital for medical examinations.
Police have urged guardians to avoid leaving vulnerable children unattended and called on members of the public to report suspected cases of abuse.
