John Sangwa Vows to Challenge Hichilema in 2026 Elections

Constitutional lawyer John Sangwa has officially declared his intention to contest the 2026 presidential elections, signaling a major political showdown with incumbent President Hakainde Hichilema.

Sangwa, widely respected for his legal expertise and constitutional advocacy, says his decision to run stems from the collective desire of Zambians for national renewal.

“That future will not be built by one person alone, but by all of us acting together: each fulfilling our constitutional duty and demanding the same of those who lead us,” Sangwa said.


He stressed that he is ready to serve, but only if the people of Zambia are prepared to walk with him on a journey of renewal and reform.

A Call for National Renewal

Sangwa’s vision is rooted in building a Zambia where:

Corruption is firmly rejected

Citizens live responsibly within their means

The Constitution is respected as a living foundation rather than a document gathering dust

He argued that no leader, no matter how well-intentioned, can succeed without the active participation of citizens in protecting democratic values.

 “Renewal cannot come from my sacrifice alone, but from our collective decision to change course together,” he emphasized.


Preparing for 2026

Sangwa warned that Zambia must face reality honestly and begin the hard work of rebuilding trust in institutions, strengthening accountability, and uniting as one people.

“The time has come for us, as one people, to face reality honestly and begin the work of national renewal,” he declared.
