Brothers Don’t Compete: James Ndambo Dismisses Presidential Ambitions
South Africa-based Zambian businessman and philanthropist James Ndambo has once again shut down speculation linking him to politics, stressing that he regards President Hakainde Hichilema as a brother — and “brothers don’t stand against each other.”
Ndambo, the Chairman of Africa Union Holdings and founder of the My Home Town Initiative, rose to prominence in 2022 following his philanthropy during the Miss My Home Town event. His name has since continued to surface as a supposed contender for the 2026 presidential elections.
However, through veteran politician and freedom fighter Vernon Mwaanga, Ndambo reiterated on October 4, 2025, that he has no political ambitions and would never consider running for office.
“He has authorized me to state for the 100th time that he has not, is not, and will not ever be interested in active politics,” Mwaanga said.
Mwaanga revealed that the MMD offered Ndambo a parliamentary seat in both 1991 and 1996, which he would have easily won, but he declined on both occasions.
"Hichilema is my brother"
Ndambo, who is also Mwaanga’s nephew, insists he cannot run against President Hichilema.
“He regards President Hakainde Hichilema as a brother and says ‘brothers don’t stand against each other,’” Mwaanga said.
Additionally, Mwaanga clarified that Ndambo is not eligible to contest for the Zambian presidency as he currently holds South African nationality.
Refutes meetings with Edgar Lungu
Mwaanga also dismissed speculation that former president Edgar Lungu held meetings with Ndambo regarding a possible political comeback.
“Mr. Ndambo has not had any secret or other meetings with the president of PF. He has been asked this question many times and has not responded, and this statement should be treated as his factual response,” Mwaanga said.
Warning against falsehoods
Ndambo has also taken a firm stance against false reports linking him to politics, warning that his legal team is prepared to take action.
“Mr. Ndambo has had serious discussions with his family and lawyers. It has been agreed that the manufacturers and distributors of these malicious falsehoods will, from now on, be sued and legally compelled to produce evidence in a court of law or face the consequences. Please stop making up falsehoods; please stop the lies; please stop the malice,” he warned.
With these clarifications, Ndambo has made it clear that his focus remains on philanthropy and business, not politics... read more
