Mpulungu, Northern Province – UPND Kapambwe Ward Councillor Joseph Kasongole was reportedly beaten by a mob during a tense confrontation with voters at Chilubula Ward amid ongoing by-elections.

The incident occurred when Councillor Kasongole confronted a female voter suspected of carrying more than one National Registration Card (NRC). Kasongole alleged that NRCs were being collected and distributed by opposition parties NCP and PF on polling day.

The woman explained that she was carrying her own NRC along with her husband’s, who had asked her to bring it so he could vote later. The explanation failed to calm the situation, and a mob attacked Kasongole before police intervened to rescue him from the crowd.
