Police Find Levy Mwanawasa Midwife Lifeless in Meanwood Lodge

LUSAKA – Tragedy has struck the medical community after a midwife from Levy Mwanawasa Medical University, Mwaba Chakolwa, was discovered dead in a Meanwood lodge on Friday.

after preliminary investigations revealed she may have ingested insecticide and attempted self-harm.

According to lodge staff, Chakolwa checked in on Thursday, but when no activity was observed from her room the following day, workers alerted authorities. Police were then called to the scene.

Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga confirmed the incident, stating that officers were forced to break into the locked room, where they found Chakolwa lying on the floor with a cloth tied around her neck.

“Officers also recovered an empty water bottle from the bathroom, which emitted a strong odor believed to be insecticide, Hamoonga said.

Her body has since been taken to the UTH mortuary for postmortem as an inquiry file has been opened. Investigations are ongoing.

Chakolwa has been described by colleagues as a compassionate healthcare professional who devoted her life to bringing others into the world, making her death especially heartbreaking.

Hamoonga used the tragic case to urge members of the public not to suffer in silence when facing emotional or personal challenges.

 “Life is precious, and help is always available. We encourage anyone going through distress to seek support from family, friends, counselors, or trusted community figures rather than taking one’s own life as a solution,” he said... Read more
