"My Government Will Buy Maize Drying Machines" — Brian Mundubile
Tonse Alliance leader Brian Mundubile says his administration would invest in maize drying machines to enable the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) to purchase maize without waiting for it to dry naturally.
Tonse Alliance leader Brian Mundubile has proposed the acquisition of maize drying machines as part of measures aimed at improving the country's grain purchasing system.
Speaking during a political engagement, Mundubile said a government under his leadership would not wait for farmers' maize to dry naturally before the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) begins purchasing.
According to Mundubile, investing in maize drying technology would help speed up crop purchases and reduce challenges faced by farmers during the marketing season.
"My government won't be waiting for maize to dry up before FRA buying because I will buy drying machines for the maize," he stated.
The proposal forms part of the opposition leader's agricultural policy agenda as political parties continue outlining their plans ahead of the general elections.
Agriculture remains one of Zambia's key economic sectors, with maize serving as the country's staple food crop and a major source of income for many farmers.
Further details regarding the proposed programme, including implementation and funding mechanisms, have not yet been announced.
